Q: I did a search on trumpets and seems there are many kinds. Which kinds did louis most frequently use?

His first cornet: simply marked "Made in Austria" (probably made in Boehmen)

Get ready for a brassy Saturday Daily O'Collegian

Few OSU students would be familiar with Wayne Bergeron’s legendary trumpet playing or with Andy Martin’s masterful trombone skills.

But chances are that most have heard their work sometime before and will hear it again when these two storied musicians attend OSU’s Brass Day 2010 on Saturday at the Seretean Center for Performing Arts.

The Department of Music hosts Brass Day annually to help recruit high school music and business students to OSU.

Throughout the day, Bergeron and Martin will teach master classes for college-bound and OSU music students. In the evening, they will play with the OSU Jazz Ensembles.

“If you’ve been to a movie in the last 20 years, you’ve heard these guys play,” said Dr. Jonathan Martin, trumpet professor.

“They’re the guys playing [the music] in the background.”

Dr. Martin isn’t being hyperbolic.

Bergeron has an extensive resume that includes playing for blockbuster movies “The Pirates of the Caribbean” and “The Incredibles,” popular music artists Beyoncé and Green Day, and the hit TV show “American Idol,” to name a few, according to his Web site.
