What is a good musical piece for a trumpet in c?

Q: I am looking for a piece to try out for my college's orchestra next year and would like to use my c trumpet. Anyone have any favorite 'classical' orchestral pieces for c trumpet?

A: Well a lot of piece are written for Trumpet in C anyways, especially anything written before 1900.

You can try anything for Bb Trumpet, just transpose it one step down, shouldn't be too hard, and if you can't do this already, then you probably won't make orchestra, because the auditioning might require you to sight read something where you'd have to transpose it while sight reading.

You can try some excerpts from Tchaikovsky's 4th, movt 1
Shostakovich Symphony 5 and 7
Prokofiev, the solo from Lietenant Kije suite I believe, I can't find it on youtube.

A couple key things to remember when auditioning - do NOT use a very shallow mouthpiece, they don't want to hear a pinched tone. I'd use a Bach 5c or if you can't do that then use 3c.

And make dynamics noticeable.
