Wooden Flute?
Q: Anyone play the wooden flute? what's it like? does it sound different (or same)? What do you like about it, what don't you like? Is it easier of harder to play than a traditional metal flute?
A: Ancient flute or five six or seven holed flute is a common touchstone of many cultures. Sometimes it has a mouthpiece like the pennywhistle and sometimes it has an indented hole like the fife or modern flute, but the fingering is more or less the same. the irregularities of the material it is made from can give it anywhere from a harsh nasal sound to an ethereal whistling wind type effect. Modern manufacturers actually make these flutes from PVC pipe and metal, which gives the flute a remarkably stable pitch, but often it is the imperfection that people prize when they play these instruments.
