What's the difference between the Gemeinhardt flute models 3S and 3SH?

Q: I'm looking to upgrade my Gemeinhardt student flute to a conservatory Gemeinhardt flute but I don't know the difference between the 3S and the 3SH conservatory models. I would also like to know if there are any advantages to buying the 3SB or the 3SHB flutes other than just getting the low B key. If you happen to know any prices for these flutes, please leave them too!

A: Please read this info at Fluteworld - which will give you MORE info (including prices!) that the Gemeinhardt website will.

HOWEVER - most professional flutists and teachers do NOT have any Gemeinhardt flutes anywhere near the top of their list of recommended instruments. A long time ago, these were good - but the company has been sold several times, and OTHER companies have come up with FAR better instruments for similar prices. If I had to name the MOST-often recommended flute in your category, I would say Azumi. For just over a grand, you get a LOT of flute for the money!

The main difference between the 3S and 3SH is that the 3SH has a silver-plated body while the 3S has a solid silver body.

If you are going to buy a Gemeinhardt, I see no advantage in buying the 3SB or 3SHB unless you really need the B foot.

If you are serious about continuing your music study, I would also research other brands of flutes.

Quartet rocking recorder stereotype Stockton Record

That's because they play recorders. They call it a "recorder collective."

The four women energetically and theatrically perform their mix of Renaissance music - including Brandenburg Bach (circa 1049) - classical transcriptions and modern, sometimes experimental compositions on instruments often thought of in the United States as toys.

The quartet - Frohlich, 31; Andrea Guttmann, 35; Hannah Pape, 32; and Heide Schwarz, 32 - won't be toying around with their instruments Sunday when they conclude Friends of Chamber Music's season at University of the Pacific's Faye Spanos Concert Hall in Stockton.

They'll choose between 45 and 50 recorders - a wide variety of shapes, sizes (4 inches to 6 feet in length), vintages, woods and tonal qualities - as they perform two compositions written for them ("Airlines" by Woiciech Blecharz and Paul Moravec's "Mortal Flesh"), Fulvio Caldini's "Clockwork toccata (Op. 68) and Alvaro Guimaraes' "Flamandes."
