Flute....?
Q: I don't know why, but lately, I really want to play the flute. Is it hard to learn and play? And do you know any facts that might convince my parents to let me get one? I'd really appreciate it, thanks.
A: Like the others mentioned, you should join your school's band.
The flute can be hard to play at first, and many beginners get lightheaded. See if one of your friends has a flute you could borrow for a day. I started out with a Standard of Excellence flute book. It teaches you how to blow, where to put your fingers, and everything. I was able to teach myself to play the flute.
The reason you should borrow a flute first is because you may want to quit after practicing for a while. You must be patient and practice often.
The easiest note to play on a flute is a B flat (left thumb and index finger, right index finger and pinky).
The Standard of Excellence flute book has a finger chart so you know which fingers to press for the right note.
You could also try convincing your parents to get you a flute teacher if you're really that interested. Make sure you know you will play your flute often before your parents buy one for you because if you quit on it, they may be hesitant to let you do new hobbies (that will cost money...).
Check out the links below for the book I mentioned!
Hope this helps.
