How should I go about buying a contra bassoon?

Q: I am a high school student who is currently playing bassoon in band. I will continue with band throughout my high school career and further. I was looking online and I could not find a reliable place to find a contra bassoon for a good price and good quality.

BTW, my price range is under 10K but hopefully it is under 8K.

Hi, I'm a pro Jazz, and Symphonic Percussionist, however your question caught my eye. 1st, I can't believe your Orchestra Teacher can't point you in the right direction. When I was in Jr and Sr High School in Glendale Ca; the local music store helped with everything. In my case it was and still is Charles, formerly Dick Charles Music Co; in Glendale CA which served all of Glendale and Burbank, CA. On line is cool, but I have one better, contact your Musician's Union, in LA it's 817 Vine St. Hollywood, CA, American Federation Of Musicians, Local 47. They cater to students, and whatever city you are in, there is a Local in a big city near you. We are all over the U.S.

PS...I also was the P-1 with the Glendale Symphony for 6 yrs; and now am on call with the Long Beach Symphony, and Pops Orchestra.
