There's A Beautiful Conn Stencil Bass Up For Sale Right Now

Silver Buescher Stencil Bass Saxophone “Masterbilt”

Here it is! An absolutely pristine Bass sax from Buescher. Serial number reads P1190x. The engraving on the bell says “The Saxophone Shop, MASTERBILT, Chicago, IL.” We aren’t experts on bass saxophones, but we think one would be hard-pressed to find a nicer example of an instrument from this vintage. The original silver is all there, in great condition. Minimal cosmetic wear on this beast. The neck looks to be in particularly good shape, as does the mouthpiece that comes with it. This sax also includes a newer case in excellent condition.

As you can see, there are a few minor dents on the bottom bow, but there are no major physical issues with the saxophone. This saxophone goes up to high Eb. This sax also has ALL NEW PADS, and is in good playing condition as well!

The Mercedes-style key guards and the X-style bell to body brace, clearly identify this as a horn that originated from Conn—as too does the serial number starting with the letter “P”, which specifically indicates that this came from the Pan American side of the Conn factory—so I’m not sure why Tenor Madness calls this a Buescher stencil in their ad copy.

I did try to contact the shop via email through eBay, but got a message that said:

Oh well, I tried…  Mistaken stencil manufacturer notwithstanding, this is almost a pristine bass, when you consider it is nearly 100 years old. Mine should look so good!

Tenor Madness has placed a Buy It Now price $5,900.00 on the horn. Or if you want to take your chances at auction, they are open to offers as well. The auction for this vintage Conn stencil runs until March 27.
